SHEKINAH MINISTRIES/KALIBU MINISTRIES/OUT OF AFRICA MINISTRIES

SHEKINAH MINISTRIES was birthed in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Africa in the early '80's. It was birthed as a result of intercession which is now and always has been the oil that keeps the wheels of this ministry moving. As we have interceded and travailed God has given the vision and the mandate. As a result God is responsible to see it through as long as we are obedient. He is the source, the supply, the covering and in the midst of trials and there are always trials even when He has given the mandate, He is the joy, the peace and everything else that is required to complete the task.

From small beginnings in Zimbabwe we branched out as God led, to various nations of the world. God has a plan and purpose and we have found over the years that through intercession we can obtain a key that will unlock doors and accomplish whatever God has for nations, peoples, groups that will have an impact often on an international scale.

In the United States we are known as Shekinah Ministries, in Africa we are called Kalibu Ministries and in Europe we are Out of Africa Ministries. Our international Director, Michael Howard is a true visionary and was born and raised in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).

KALIBU MINISTRIES

Shekinah/Kalibu was birthed in Africa. We have a vision to reach those in rural areas and seemingly unreachable areas. Over the years-30 we have worked in numerous countries in Africa, most of which have been at war - Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Rwanda, Southern Sudan. In Mozambique we worked with the underground church during communism and now we have numerous churches operating under us and a base in Morrumbala which oversees those churches. Men and women, pastors and leaders are brought into Morrumbala on a regular basis for training and sent back into the field where they operate in an apostolic type role-starting new churches, and training leadership within those churches.

In Malawi we have a similar system in place with churches in abundance across the nation. We encourage congregations to make bricks and build proper churches instead of mud and poles with thatching. If they make the bricks and build we undertake to raise finances to roof a church with corrugated iron at a cost of approximately $500 per church. We hold conventions throughout the nation with miraculous results. People are being saved, delivered, healed and baptized in water and the Holy Spirit.

We built and ran a Bible School in Southern Sudan during the worst of the war years there (the '90's) and graduated almost 250 students after they completed a three year program-two in the classroom and one in the field. These graduates are now pastors, teachers (some have started their own Bible Schools) and missionaries operating throughout the nation.

Our "flagship" is the secondary school which we have/are building in Malawi. It will cater for 1,000 students and approximately 750 boarders. It is state of the art for African education but most importantly, apart from getting an excellent education we are able to instill in them a real love for God. These are the future leaders of that nation who will impact the nation in the years to come. How glorious that they be born again and Spirit filled as they take their place as political and business leaders of the country. The school has one of the best libraries in the country along with computer science labs, science labs, metal and wood working facilities. It is a wonder and marvelous thing to watch as these young people start at the school, dead to the things of God and within a few weeks are impacted by Jesus. They become excited about almost everything especially their studies. They begin to realize that they need to have vision for the future and that if they set themselves towards achieving that goal their vision will become reality.

KALIBU ACADEMY is a vision that God gave over twenty years ago. It is truly an example of just how BIG our God is and how He can use small and seemingly insignificant mankind to bring about what to us would be impossible task. When we began the foundations of the school in the early 90's the local headman came and asked what we were doing. He then told us that some ten years prior to that two elderly white missionary ladies used to climb the mountain behind where the school is now situated and sit on a rock for hours every week. When he questioned them they told him that they were praying that one day someone would come and build a school on that property.

The school is built on a tier system starting part way up the side of the mountain and stretching down to the edge of the river. The property is bounded on two sides by two rivers.

We currently have over 500 boarders. Each dormitory houses up to 30 students.

The Kalibu Ministries base outside Blantyre, Malawi, is the missions headquarters for our African operations. It is the hub, out from which the various projects, churches, and outreaches work.

Our goal for Malawi is to proclaim a godly standard, THE Standard of Jesus Christ, and show how obedience to a Higher Law will bring TRUE peace and TRUE prosperity into the land. To do so, we have involved ourselves as follows:

OUTREACHES - Preaching the Gospel to the remote villages. We send teams into the rural areas almost every weekend. They often preach from house to house on Saturdays and then hold crusade like meetings on Sunday mornings. The power of the Holy Spirit falls with signs and wonders accompanying the preaching of the Gospel. People are set free from the demonic powers that many have lived under for generations, many are healed and multitudes give their lives to Christ and are then led through the waters of baptism and baptism in the Holy Spirit.

CHURCH PLANTING - The building up of churches in these villages as "lighthouses" of God's Word. To date, there are approximately 100 churches in Malawi and 200 in Mocambique under Kalibu headship. Not only do we assist in preaching and training pastors for their calling, we also provide assistance in roofing the physical structures.
Very often, when our teams go into an area, we find ourselves preaching under the trees. These remote places just don't have churches, as the mere labors involved in seeking out a daily existence consume their lives and there are many who have never even heard the name of Jesus.

But as they give their hearts to the Lord, and begin to look to Him in all things, a new hope arises within them. Worshipping and praising God take priority, and, as is always true with God, He takes care of everything else. "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."

For building the new churches, Kalibu Ministries maintains strict standards. First and foremost, the churches must be preaching and living according to our Statement of Faith. Lives are ALWAYS more important than buildings. Then there is a general plan to follow. Bricks must be properly made and burned in a kiln for strength. Cement mortar must be used or else the entire building plastered over to protect the walls from damaging rain. Strong and straight timber must be used in preparation for the roof. All of this is done by the villagers themselves. Once this is done then we will raise the finances for the roofing which is corrugated iron sheeting. Approximately $500 - 750 will provide the iron sheets necessary to completely roof one village church.

Malawi - Pastor Support

There are at least 100 pastors in Malawi needing financial support. We are looking for people willing to commit to donations of $30 per month over a one-year commitment which will assist these pastors who have no other means of support.
WE LOVE OUR PASTORS - Kalibu Ministries has the unique call to go to the remote places and plant churches. Why? Because nobody else will go, and these people in the villages rest heavily upon the heart of God. Our Malawi staff and missionaries travel by vehicle when they can, and often resort to foot or bicycle when there are no roads....to preach the Gospel and bring souls into the Kingdom of God. Just like the book of Acts, these new churches are committed to faithful, Spirit-filled men who have a heart for their people.

PASTORS' CONFERENCES- Two to three times a year, the pastors are brought in for a conference, for a time of solid preaching and teaching, incredible worship and prayer, and encouragement.

IN-HOUSE TRAINING- A few pastors at a time are brought to the mission headquarters in Blantyre for two weeks of personal teaching and counseling to develop their skills in pastoring. As they go they are blessed with whatever we have to give: a few shirts and trousers, a pair of shoes, a metal bucket, gifts for their wife and children.

PASTORS' SUPPORT- These pastors are giving of their lives for the sake of Jesus. They work tirelessly, with no means of support. They live off the meager food they can grow in their gardens. Because of the overall level of poverty in these remote areas, a Sunday morning offering rarely exceeds 25 cents. Yet, they continue because of the call.

We are looking for people willing to make a commitment of $30 per month for 12 months to assist one of these pastors....so he can adequately feed and clothe his family. They are good ground for sowing your seed, and you WILL be blessed in return. All supporters will be given a photo of the pastor and his family, and updated as to their progress. We also try to provide our pastors with a bicycle which costs $60. If you would like to be a part of the bicycle program we will send a photo of a pastor with his new bicycle. All village churches are in need of Bibles in the local language. A hard covered Bible costs approximately $5.

When there is famine due to a lack of rain or because of flooding we stockpile maize to help feed our pastors and their families. We keep this maize in fumigated containers so that it is available when there is need.

If you are willing to support a pastor, purchase a bicycle, a bag of maize or Bibles please contact:

KALIBU BIBLE SCHOOL - We run a small Bible School on the Kalibu Academy campus. It is the vision to eventually build a Bible College and bring in international students and train them in Malawi where there is little to distract them from their studies. At present we have students from the United States, England, Finland, Mozambique and Malawi. The Dean of the school is Pastor Frank VanDyke from the United States. The course is a three year course with two years in the classroom and a year in the field. Students are in the classroom during the mornings and then involved in the Academy in some form for part of the afternoons.

MOZAMBIQUE

The testimony of the beginning of the Mozambique work is detailed in a book by Michael Howard called "Love Constrained." Because of the tireless intercession of a handful of dedicated people Mozambique is now one of the most "missionized" nations in Africa.
Our headquarters in Mozambique is in Morrumbala and is headed by Jim and Eileen Kirt who started the work there by living in a tent for the first six months until they were able to build a home. Eileen came from Wisconsin and had not lived in Africa for long before marrying Jim from Michigan.

Jim began a logging business which they use to support the work. They have concessions in the Morrumbala area and are one of very few who have been granted a concession to cut black wood which is one of the hardest woods and used to make musical instruments. The work in Mozambique has grown and flourished under their faithful supervision.

Churches in Mocambique were established by Shekinah / Kalibu Ministries during the raging civil war in the 80's. Pastor Howard and his teams spent years ministering to the people of Mocambique, and during those years, the hunger of the people for the Word of God was so strong that they would walk, sometimes for weeks, just to hear it. When Samora Machel (the Marxist President at the time) was killed, a spiritual breakthrough was achieved and the door stood wide open for the Gospel.

For hundreds of years Mocambique had been ruled and influenced by the Portuguese. Slaves were bought from the interior of Africa through Mocambique to the costal ports for their distribution abroad. The Roman Church held the spiritual reins and they forbade overseas missionaries who were carrying the Gospel to enter the nation. When the door opened in the '80's, only a few missionaries entered the war-torn nation to bring the Gospel to the people.
The vision of Kalibu Ministries is to reach the remote rural areas with the Gospel and to continue to plant and establish churches and to train the local leaders to maintain and expand the work in their regions. Training, teaching, and imparting spiritual knowledge by the Holy Spirit is where we are concentrating our efforts. There are many believers in these congregations but they lack teaching and discipleship. We work hard to dispel the many vain traditions, the teachings of spiritism and witchcraft and the fear that grips their lives because of generations of darkness.
